THE ESTRANGED - fast train b/w the masses - 4,50
Keith, Derek and Mark from REMAINS OF THE DAY started a new band and totally changed the sound, so don't expect gloomy hc here. THE ESTRANGED play dark punkrock similar to bands like WARSAW or MISSION OF BURMA and add a certain doomtown YOUTH OF AMERICA twist. Great stuff, totally recommended!
MARVELOUS DARLINGS - i don't wanna go to the party - 4,50
The first offering from Toronto's marvelous darlings is finally here. Featuring Ben Cook and Matt Delong from NO WARNING and VIOLENT MINDS, the marvelous darlings take catchy punk to a level rarely seen or heard. The A-side track from this single is an absolute modern punk classic with killer RAMONES riffage and I say this with confidence. Not to overshadow the excellence of 'Careerist' (the B-side), 'I don't wanna go to the party' is the obvious standout track on this record.
RITES OF SPRING - all through a life - 4,50
This 7" was the second release from the mighty rites of spring who, in 1984, helped redefine the punk rock scene in Washington, DC and the rest of the world, challenging the macho posturing that had become so prevalent and defying musical and stylistic rule. Out of print for years, this recording is set to once again see the light of day, a testament to the sound and attitude of the Revolution Summer bands of Dischord Records.
STATUES - same bodies, same faces - 4,50
The first DERANGED offering from Sudbury's statues, but not the last. For those unaware, this trio has already released two excellent albums and is currently working on a third for later 2008. In the interim, these 4 tracks will need to hold those craving another album's worth of statues' infectious power punk. ´Same bodies, same faces´ features 3 new exclusive originals and a GG ALLIN cover of 'Dead or Alive'. Here is the MRR review of their 2nd album -Wow, a welcome new discovery for me. Mining the same updated pop-punk/power-pop/mod-punk vein as SMALLTOWN or current faves (and co-Canucks) TRANZMITORS, with the hint of a less snotty BRIEFS and a literary JAWBREAKER-esque quality to the lyrics. Great stuff, recorded well and with great catchy choruses. Sounds authentic but not retro.

BAADER BRAINS - the complete unfinished works of the young tiger - 12,50
Picking up where PLEASE INFORM THE CAPTAIN THIS IS A HIJACK left off, baader brains approach harder and faster with their politically infused hardcore, again drawing from samples and sound bites to further develop their world of sound. All collected in a beautiful, colorful package complete with a mini-manual, this is the latest in a long string of incredible bands brought to you by Mike Kirsch, Jose Palafox, et al (TORCHES TO ROME, BREAD & CIRCUITS, SAWHORSE, SWING KIDS, STRUGGLE, FUEL, etc...) This record will blow your doors off and inspire you for years to come!
DESCENDENTS - milo goes to college - 12,-
15 songs from 1982 about life, love, girls, losers, and, of course, food.
HÜSKER DÜ - land speed record - 12,-
Land Speed Record fully exposes the rage and manic energy that drove hüsker dü to dizzying heights of creative and critical success; it's an incredible (though appallingly poor-sounding) document of a live Minneapolis show from 1981 featuring the band in its embryonic form.
HÜSKER DÜ - metal circus - 10,-
This is the album on which the monster that was hüsker dü truly came alive. From here on out, this Minneapolis trio would define new directions and open new vistas for rock music with every release.
SCREAM - still screaming - 12,-
COLOR WAX! Re-pressed for the first time in over a decade, the debut full-length from DC's scream is finally seeing the light again on vinyl. This LP, produced by Ian MacKaye and Eddie Janney of FAITH, shows the band's advanced musicianship and rock and roll sensibility while still maintaining the speed and punk fury that characterized the early '80s DC bands.
DVD
AMERICAN HARDCORE 14,-
ANOTHER STATE OF MIND 15,-
The Decline Of The Western Civilisation" äußerst einzigartig.

TORCHE - in return + cd - 18,-
It sure doesn't feel like it, but it's been three years since TORCHE's eponymous debut, and now they return with a blistering new release fittingly titled In Return. This monstrous, seven-song, 20-minute EP pushes the band's musical extremes even further as the "poppy" songs are far more catchy, and the "heavy" songs are infinitely more crushing. The band continues to explore every side of their multi-faceted personas, presenting their darkest, heaviest and most infectious work to date. In Return is also Robotic Empire's most obsessively ridiculous packaging yet; a beautiful full-color JOHN BAIZLEY design as a gatefold 10-inch jacket with a printed innersleeve and a die-cut that holds the companion CD in place, all housed in a thick mylar bag with a two-color sticker. Yep, this deluxe colored vinyl comes with a musically-identical CD counterpart so you don't have to deal with any digital download hassles if you simply want this thing on your computer.

AVENGERS - died for your sins - 11,-
Although it remains a secret, the two greatest U.S. punk bands walked this earth in the late '70s, the Weirdos and the Avengers. Due to the paucity of indie labels and stores at the time, their stunning live sets went down to history, documented by a couple of barely distributed singles and EPs. Thus, their historical legends were such that both groups were exhumed by seminal retrospective LPs. However, this secret has had the surprising effect of forcing Avengers frontwoman Penelope Houston to raid her own vaults for recordings, something she seemed unwilling to do for two decades. The first happy result is this burning piece of plastic. The second is a reunion with guitarist Greg Ingraham to record three '77 songs for the first time, which stack up to the original days. Houston found no less than seven "new" originals and eight unheard alternate versions of the songs that forged the band's lasting reputation. Best of all, since 16 of the 18 cuts are live on stage or in rehearsal, one can best see what they had to offer in their natural habitat. No modern punk outfit could match this breakneck drive, this pulsing energy, and most of all this indomitable spirit of conviction. Even on the one or two live cuts where the sound quality is a tad submerged, the blast of the band and the painful edge is shocking. Though The Avengers remains the best document for newcomers, since it benefits from studio quality, Died is nevertheless a motherload. Whether you're a fanatic or curious, if the speed and adrenaline in these recordings don't make the hairs on your arms stand up, you're probably on downers. After all, this is the band that blew the Sex Pistols off the stage at their final gig. ~ Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover, All Music Guide
BIG BLACK - songs about fucking - 12,-
Final album by Steve Albini's band.
DO MAKE SAY THINK - good bye enemy airship the landlord Is dead - 16.-
Their space- and drone-rock foundations continue to serve as the launching pad for experimentation with jazz-inflected motifs, but with this third album, the group's pop sensibility is also on fine display. Melodic themes laid out by guitars and horns wind along a burbling brook of fat analog synths and phased percussion, tiny subtle details are worked into the mix on every track, and the whole record just pulses with warmth and soul.
GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR - F# A# OO - 16.-
The kings of instrumental post-rock!
LOST SOUNDS - s/t - 12,-
Great record by Alicija Trout and Jay Reatard's now defunct band.
NEUROSIS - given to the rising - 19,00
'Given To The Rising' is a career landmark album for a band who have influenced and inspired a new generation, including Isis, Mastodon, Sepultura and Cult Of Luna, to name a few. This is some of Neurosis' most raw and immediate material to date, it is also more complexly orchestrated than their past works and richly thickened with psych-damaged overtones.
PISSED JEANS - hope for men - 14,-
After much ado, the debut Sub Pop full-length from Allentown, PA's Pissed Jeans is set to go, with ten songs of dirty low-fi punk that takes the most vile aspects of bands like The Jesus Lizard and Flipper to create their own mix of volatility and humor. Vinyl version includes coupon for free MP3s of the entire album.
SONIC YOUTH - goo 4xLP - 38,-
The Deluxe Edition of Sonic Youth's 1990 album "Goo" includes thirty one songs: the original album remastered; remixed and remastered versions of the band's 8-track demos; the album outtake "Lee #2" (previously unheard with vocals); rehearsal outtakes "Tuff Boyz" and "Isaac"; "Can Song" (a never-before-heard demo of "The Bedroom"); the Beach Boys cover "I Know There's an Answer"; "Dr. Benway's House," the band's contribution to William Burroughs' Dead City Radio; B-sides "The Bedroom" and "That's All I Know Right Now" (the latter a cover of the Richard Hell/Tom Verlaine pre-Television group Neon Boys); and the promotion-only "Goo Interview." A 16-page book is included with an interview-essay by Byron Coley, an essay by Mark Kates, and never-before-seen photos.
SONIC YOUTH - daydream nation 4xlp - 38,-
Daydream Nation was Sonic Youth’s sixth album, their first double LP, and their last for an indie label before signing with Geffen. Widely considered to be their watershed moment, Daydream Nation catapulted them into the mainstream and proved that indie bands could enjoy wide commercial success without compromising their artistic vision. The original 1988 album has been remastered under the band’s supervision. The bonus platters begin with previously unreleased live performances from the Daydream Nation Tour. Culled from performances at CBGB in New York, The Paradiso in Amsterdam, and several other primo venues, “Live Daydream” includes live versions of every song on the original album. Added to that are four studio bonuses: “Within You, Without You” (a Beatles cover from the NME-sponsored charity Beatles tribute album Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father), “Computer Age,” from the Neil Young tribute album The Bridge, “Electricity” from the Captain Beefheart tribute album Fast And Bulbous, and a cover of Mudhoney’s “Touch Me, I’m Sick,” originally released as a Sub Pop 7-inch single. Lee Ranaldo’s original demo of “Eric’s Trip” concludes the album.
WEAKERTHANS - left and leaving - 12,-
The second honest-to-goodness album from these Canadian punk rock favorites featuring former PROPAGANDHI mainman JOHN SAMSOM at the helm. Twelve way-beyond-emo new songs that yearn to be heard, understood and rocked to from a group who believes in the complexities of human desires, and the struggles of the soul.

PUNK LOVE - 25,-
Susie Horgan (formerly Susie Josephson) was one of the first great photographers to grow out of and document the early punk scene in Washington DC in the early 80s. Her iconic photographs are instantly recognizable by people familiar with Dischord Records as the Teen Idles 7" , the first Minor Threat 7" and the Flex Your Head LP all use her photos as central themes. Text by Ian MacKaye & Henry Rollins. The book is 8x8"/, 100 b/w photographs, 112 pages and is hardcover.
SHORT FAST & LOUD #18 - 4,-
Biggest issue yet, 104 pages of crazy thrash insanity! Interviews with 70’s punk legends PURE HELL, Ohio metal cretins NUNSLAUGHTER, Japan’s premiere power Suppenkasper band SLIGHT SLAPPERS and Finland veteran punks VALSE TRISTE. Plus tons of columns, reviews, Worst Ever Tour Stories, Mosh of Ass demo reviews, etc!
WE OWE YOU NOTHING expanded version - 17,50
The first compilation of the riveting and provocative interviews of Punk Planet magazine, founded in 1994 and charging unbowed into the new millennium. Never lapsing into hapless nostalgia, these conversations with figures as diverse as Jello Biafra, Kathleen Hanna, Noam Chomsky, Henry Rollins, Sleater-Kinney, Ian MacKaye, and many more provide a unique perspective into American punk rock and all that it has inspired (and confounded). Not limited to conversations with musicians, the book includes vital interviews with political organizers, punk entrepreneurs, designers, film-makers, writers, illustrators, and artists of many different media. The Expanded Edition is updated with 6 more interviews and a new introduction, bringing the definitive book of conversations with the underground's greatest minds up to 2007. New interviews include talks with bands like The Gossip and Maritime, a conversation with punk legend Bob Mould, and more. Punk Planet has consistently explored the crossover of punk with activism, and reflects the currents of the underground while simultaneously challenging the bleak centrism of today's popular American culture. FUCKED UP - hidden world 2xLP - 18,-
Fucked Up's first full-length studio album marks a turning point for the mysterious Toronto band, transcending the boundaries of punk with melody, aggression, expansive structures, and enigmatic diatribes on what lies under the immediate, visualized world. They combine confrontational ideologies with deliberate misinformation to produce a brutal analysis on thought provocative punk. "Ironically, their fast and sloppy early 80's hardcore is a million times more musical and ferocious than 99% of professional myspace-era mosh bands, and their fans' post-show cuts and bruises remind us that this shit might have the potential to still be dangerous" - Vice. For fans of The Wipers, Ramones, The Who, Negative Approach, Pink Floyd.
THE LOCUST - s/t - 12,50
GSL's best-selling release to date is the debut "full-length" from San Diego's THE LOCUST. Clocking in at about 13 minutes, the record wastes no time in pummeling anyone within earshot. Combining a variety of sounds and aesthetics (CROSSED OUT, DEICIDE, DEVO and MOTLEY CRUE all come to mind), THE LOCUST have amassed a loyal following far and wide, and this record is a good indication as to why. Brutal, relentless blasts of 45-second mayhem whose titles take longer to read than the songs do to play: "Skin Graft at Seventy-Five Miles an Hour", "Fixed Companionship, Ghost Town Irrationality", "High-Maintenance Libido, Bring the Whole Family". These are cynical, scathing reactions to suburban myopia, tailormade for a generation of attention-deficit latchkey kids.
PLEASE INFORM THE CAPTAIN THIS IS A HIJACK - defeat or humiliate the usa - 11,50
After years of legal struggle, the much rumored final vision of Please Inform The Captain's second full length comes to light. 14 new tracks of extremely well-crafted political hardcore, accompanied by a book of short stories. One would be unfortunately hard-pressed to find another band with such unique and inspiring power. Essential listening with intense packaging. Ex-members of Bread & Circuits, Fuel, Torches To Rome, Sawhorse, Fuel, and John Henry West, Former Members of Alfonsin, Q Factor and more!

BEAR PROOF SUIT - science is dead - 4,50
Wisconsin. A state that has brought us off-kilter underground trailblazers like Die Kreuzen, Tar Babies, Killdozer, Couch Flambeau, and AluminumKnotEye now unleashes the next generation of this twisted family tree: BEAR PROOF SUIT. BPS not only manage to court an early 80s hardcore sound, but build upon it with some choice mid 70’s proto-metal riffage (like B.O.C. and Sabbath!) and a cool Wipers-like non-hardcore/psyche/surf groove attack (Note: The version of the Wipers "Upfront" on the record is performed with as much drive and power as the original!). All of this is delivered with a monstrous wall-of-guitars blast intended from the start to blow speakers AND minds. An awesome feat from an almost impossible band. Their lyrical explorations are as relevant (who can’t identify with an issue like having bad credit?), as they are absurd (betting your soul against a microscope of gold that you can outwit God!). Wisconsinian absurd!
THE FREEZE - i hate tourists - 4,50
Legit reissue of this collectors' holy grail. An absolute monster of a disc, up there with any of the Killed By Death big hitters. A different sound then their more hardcore later stuff, the A-side is synth driven new wave snarl, not unlike a heavier Pointed Sticks, but it's their B-side that is the draw: total three-chord Ramones-driven snot-punk. Classic.
LOSER LIFE - i want the world - 4,50
Hailing from Bakersfield, the armpit of California, Loser Life follow up their well received demos and single with "I Want the World," a 3 song ep that hones their Articles of Faith/Leatherface brand of melodic and aggressive hardcore. Fuelled by all the anger and frustration that comes with growing up in a hostile and ignorant hicktown, Loser Life conveys a certain sense of urgency that many of their fellow Chicago style hardcore worshippers lack. Look for an LP and full US tour later this year.

Glen E. Friedman is considered one of the most important photographers of his generation, world-renowned for his prescient documentation of many of recent history's most iconic movements in pop culture. Among other worthy subjects, his lens has captured moments in the birth and evolution of radical skateboarding, hardcore punk, and hip-hop, as Friedman played a firsthand role in their development.
